Pain On The Base Of The Finger

American

Lord, in the Visitors Center in Salt Lake City, between planets
Hello! The

time .. where to start? I put some pictures from my trip to Salt Lake City here. We were at the conference of the American Chemical Society. A great event (15000 participants), which was very interesting. I met enough people working on similar things .. was a useful trip. Also, I was in good company, with Kideok, Jackie and Ian, who are all in my group here at Berkeley.

Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah, and "the Mecca" of the Mormons. In the center of the city is Temple Square, where is the famous Mormon Tabernacle, where he also sings the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir (there are some hard-to-house). Interestingly Visitors Center (the definition of 'kitsch', set in the photos). It is an exhibition explaining the Mormon creed. It is interesting .. yankee style.

This park is also the Utah Genealogical Society, which is the largest in the world. Apparently, for Mormons is very important to know their ancestry. The guys have an impressive database, and you can see for free (some parts also online). They also have a huge collection of microfilms, where are the 'copies' of the church books of half the world. Thus, if the information you're looking for not on the computer, you take a copy of the relevant microfilm. I began to search using the words 'Simpson' and 'Langreo', and found such a Rodriguez Nicole Simpson ... but I could hardly tell if it was our family. She is a lady who was born around 1840. Then I started looking for 'Rail', but I wanted data (found a lot of people in northern Leon, always for the same dates: 1850 ...). It's hard to find something if you do not have a priori information. There I met another boy who had met hours earlier at the conference. Achieving find his tatatarabuelo (1650). Among other things, he took copies of passenger lists of ships in which his family had emigrated to the U.S. to the 20's. Awesome.

One day I went to a basketball game: Utah Jazz-Houston Rockets. There are some fantastic photo on the page. No surprises me respect for the American flag. During the anthem, everyone hand to his chest and turned to the flag. Last night I was at another party here .. my friend Manuel (Gijon), who is here for postdoc, I invite you, and input their wealth. We saw Golden State, Memphis. A pity that Marc did not play more .. is the best.

On Sunday we went on an excursion to Mount Tamalpais. Very nice, although most of the time we were stuck in the woods (no view). Still have not sent me the photos.

Well, I will try to tell you more things tomorrow or to catch up .. I was very busy before of the conference!

Kisses to all!
